ABOUT STAYSEAT

We create warmth where it makes a difference

StaySeat makes it easier to enjoy life outdoors – even when the temperature drops.

OUR MISSION

The cold shouldn't determine how long we can stay outside

We believe that people benefit from being outdoors. But when the temperature drops, the cold often limits how long we stay.

StaySeat creates warmth where it makes a difference: for the individual. This allows for more time outdoors and uses far less energy than solutions that heat the air around us.

Heat people - not areas

FROM IDEA TO STAYSEAT

A cool evening was the beginning

StaySeat didn't begin with a finished business plan. It started as a 5th-semester project at DTU – and with a wonder about how much energy is lost into thin air.

  1. Jon Sødergreen was studying engineering at DTU when, in his 5th semester, he and four fellow students had to develop a project. The group wanted to work on a specific problem where technology could make a noticeable difference.

  2. At a restaurant in Nyhavn, the group noticed eight heated lamps. Only four of them were warming people. The rest were using energy to heat cold air, which soon disappeared with the wind. This raised a simple question: Is there a better way to create warmth?

  3. Jon remembered the winter training sessions from his childhood. After hours in the cold, he would get into his father's car and turn on the heated seats. The warmth came immediately and exactly where his body needed it. Could the same feeling be transferred to a restaurant environment?

  4. Already the next day, the group visited a car breaker and was allowed to take a seat out of a car. They removed the heating element, placed it in a regular cushion, and connected it to a car battery. Only 12 hours after the idea arose, the first StaySeat prototype was created.

  5. The prototype was taken to cafés and restaurants, where guests tested it and provided their feedback. The response was positive. Afterwards, the group spoke with restaurateurs about operations, energy consumption, and the need for an alternative to heat lamps and gas heaters.

  6. After his studies, the project group gradually diminished, and a year later, Jon continued alone. StaySeat then developed into a family-run business. At the same time, the perspective broadened: Personal warmth can also make a significant difference for the elderly, people with reduced mobility, and private individuals who want to spend more time outdoors.

It started with the desire to replace heat lamps. Today, StaySeat is about giving more people the freedom to be outdoors.
